OnlyFans vs Fansly vs FanVue: what actually differs for subscribers

3 min readEditorial

Most comparisons of these platforms are written for creators, and focus on revenue splits. This one is written for the person paying, because the differences that matter to a subscriber are different ones.

Platform terms change. Treat this as orientation, and check the current terms before relying on any specific detail.

Subscription structure

  • OnlyFans: a single subscription price per creator, with optional bundles at a discount for longer commitments, plus pay-per-view messages and tips on top.
  • Fansly: multiple tiers per creator, so the same creator can offer several price points with different access levels. Also supports free tiers used as a shop window.
  • FanVue: subscription plus pay-per-view, positioned around creator tooling. Smaller catalogue, so discovery depends more on the creator bringing their own audience.

The extras problem

On all three, the subscription is frequently not the real price. Pay-per-view messages, custom requests and tips can exceed the subscription many times over.

This is the single most common source of disputes we see described in reviews: the subscriber believed the monthly price bought the content, and the content sat behind additional unlocks.

  • Before subscribing, check whether the creator states what is included in the base price.
  • Treat "DM me for the full set" as a signal that the subscription is an entry fee, not the product.
  • A creator who publishes a clear price list is materially lower-risk than one who does not.

Refunds and disputes

None of the three offers routine refunds, and the reason is the same on all of them: subscriptions are treated as digital content made available immediately.

Billing descriptors and privacy

All three use discreet billing descriptors that do not name the platform explicitly on a card statement. Descriptors change over time and by processor, so do not rely on a specific string you read somewhere.

If statement privacy matters to you, check the descriptor the platform currently states in its own billing help pages rather than trusting a third-party list.

Discovery, and why it affects quality

OnlyFans deliberately provides very little in-platform discovery. Fansly provides more, including tag-based browsing. FanVue sits in between.

This has a real effect on what you get. On a platform with weak discovery, creators must import their audience from elsewhere, so the public social presence is usually an accurate preview. Where in-platform discovery is stronger, profiles are optimised for the platform’s own browse surfaces, and the preview can be less representative.

Frequently asked

Which platform is cheapest for subscribers?
Neither platform sets creator pricing, so the platform is not the variable — the creator is. What differs is structure: tiered platforms make it easier to buy in at a lower price point, and easier to accidentally buy a tier that excludes what you wanted.
Can I get a refund if a creator does not deliver a custom order?
A custom order that was paid for and never delivered is a stronger case than a subscription you were disappointed by, because there is a specific undelivered item. Keep the agreement in writing, raise it with the creator, then platform support. Written evidence is what determines the outcome.
Does a review here cover the platform or the creator?
The creator’s account. We review individual commercial accounts, not the platforms themselves.
