What is PPV?

Also called: pay-per-view, paid message

PPV — pay-per-view — is content locked inside a message that costs extra on top of your subscription. You see a blurred preview and a price, and you pay again to open it. On many accounts PPV, not the subscription, is where most of the money is actually spent.

What it means for you

  • The subscription price is a poor predictor of what an account will cost you per month. A cheap subscription with heavy PPV routinely costs more than an expensive one that includes everything.
  • PPV is a legitimate model. It becomes a problem when the profile implies the subscription includes content that in fact sits behind further unlocks.
  • Before subscribing, look at the public feed for how often the creator points people to their DMs. Frequent "check your messages" posts describe a PPV-led account.
  • There is no way to see PPV prices before subscribing, which is the structural problem: the layer that determines most of your spending is invisible at the moment you decide to spend. Reviews are the only place that information exists, which is a large part of why this platform is here.

A concrete example

A £4/month account posts three or four times a week publicly, and sends two locked messages a week at £12 each. The advertised price is £4; the realistic monthly cost is closer to £100.

Illustrative. Not a real account, and not based on one.

How this shows up in reviews here

PPV shows up under the value dimension. A review saying "the subscription is an entry fee and everything real is a separate unlock" is a factual statement about pricing structure, and it is exactly the kind of thing this platform exists to surface.
